On Friday November 20th, the Wheeling Nailers announced the signing of American left-winger Lawton Courtnall. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season. Courtnall joined the Nailers hockey club after finishing his career at Western Michigan.
During his collegiate hockey career, the left-handed shooter tallied 17 goals along with 19 assists which made for 36 points. He did so in 138 games. Lawton, 24-years-old, is the son of Russ Courtnall, a former NHL’er. Courtnall was known for applying his speed.
Wheeling’s roster is currently comprised of fourteen forwards; Matt Alfaro, Cody Bradley, Alec Butcher, Lawton Courtnall, Tyler Drevitch, Brad Drobot, Kevin Dufour, Andrew Gaus and Sean Josling. This also includes Luke Lynch, Michael Pelech, Cody Sylvester and Will Smith. On defence, they have Drydn Dow, Marc-Olivier Duquette, Matt Miller, Matt Foley, Chad Duchesne, Shane Kuzmeski, Dane Birks and Dylan MacPherson. Wheeling is set to play their home opener on the 12th of December as they welcome the Indy Fuel.
