The Adirondack Thunder lost their fifth straight game on Wednesday night… you think that’s painful? Brampton and Maine also lost. If you’re still willing to suffer through my recap, welcome, this will not be fun at all.
Adirondack Continues To Shoot Themselves In The Foot
Adirondack returned home from what was a failed attempt at getting points during their three-games in St. Johns, Newfoundland. On Wednesday, they would look to beat a last place Railers team. The Thunder got off to a strong start as James Phelan would get his second goal in two games as he would get a nice pass from Kelly Summers that would lead him on a breakaway. A Kelly Summers goal would give the Thunder a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
Nick Hutchinson played his first game on Wednesday and got a chance to play alongside Matt Salhany and John Edwardh at times. “I got the chance to play with some pretty good players tonight,” said Hutchison. He would pick up his first career point on an assist on the Kelly Summers goal on a nice give and go.
“I gave him a drop pass that sailed off a little bit, but he cut over and put it in the net.” Hutchinson would end up getting his first goal on a shot that would end up being reviewed but upheld. “Little nervous, but now it’s out of the way and I can focus on getting some wins,” said Hutchison.
After the Summers goal, it would be all Worcester as they would respond with four unanswered goals. Here’s how two of them happened. The Ross Olsson goal that gave the Railers the lead would occur after James Linhart was double teamed with no help at all and Ross Olsson was given a gift in the slot and obviously took advantage. “It’s frustrating, things like that should be out of our game after the first month of the season” said head coach Alex Loh.
Worcester would also score two goals 0:16 apart to start the third period. However, the Thunder would try and storm back late in the period as Casey Pierro-Zabotel would pick up a shortie at the 5:51 mark. This of course came before Hutchison notched his first at the 14:35 mark, but that’s all the Thunder would get as they would fall 5-4 to the Railers. Speaking of which, Worcester averages 2.6 goals scored per game. On the other hand, Eamon McAdam made 18 saves in the losing effort.
It is important to note that the ECHL is putting a barrier between the players and media for postgame press conferences which took effect on Wednesday night. The players didn’t comment on it, but coach Loh said, “This is weird” when walking in front of the banner before speaking.
