Despite a losing effort for the second straight game, Auston Matthews had himself another big game on Sunday in Chicago. Matthews and William Nylander were dominant in their 5-4 loss against the Chicago Blackhawks. Along the way, the American centerman had himself a four-point night at the United Center.
Matthews had four assists, two of which being primary with the other two marked as secondary. With the production effort, it would be his ninth point in his last four games for Toronto.
⭐️⭐️ – Robin Lehner
Robin Lehner had himself a massive game, making 53 saves on Sunday when the Chicago Blackhawks welcomed the Maple Leafs to town. Lehner, an NHL veteran, backstopped his team with a stellar performance to a win over Toronto who bombarded the opposition him with shots. The Leafs recorded 57 shots on net and Lehner managed to stop 53 of them.
Walking off the ice with the victory, Robin Lehner would finish the night having recorded a .930 SV%. For the season, it was the highest amount of shots that he had faced, making the 5-4 effort an overall performance that he would like to remember.
⭐️ – Connor McDavid
After finishing off a homestand on Friday, the Edmonton Oilers hit the road on Sunday, paying a visit to the Anaheim Ducks. Looking to get back in the win column, the Canadian captain would lead the Oilers, scoring his first hat trick of the season to open the road trip with a 6-2 victory. As a result of his performance, McDavid, a native of Richmond Hill, was the brightest star en route to the win.
McDavid’s hat trick also raised his point total to 30 recorded going into Tuesday’s game against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. With an upgrade to his stats line, McDavid’s 30 now ranks tied for second in NHL scoring alongside David Pasternak. The Oilers captain now sits with 11 goals and 19 assists in 19 games played this season.
