Scouting Notes:

Mercer is coming off his third season in the QMJHL after scoring 24 and 36 assists for 60 points in 40 games. He was traded earlier this season from Drummondville to Chicoutimi. However, his numbers have dropped a bit since the trade as he picked up 42 points in 26 games with Drummondville, but has only recorded 18 during his 16 games with Chicoutimi.

One part of his game that really stands out his stick-handling abilities. The 18-year-old winger is able to make plays and skate through defender’s wise ease. Most of his goals will come from close range as he loves to get in front of the net.

The Carbonear, Newfound native is expected to go somewhere in the middle of the opening round in the upcoming NHL Draft. Despite already having played three seasons in the Q between Chicoutimi and Drummondville, he hasn’t been able to prove that he’s ready for the next level quite just yet. I expect him to start seeing some AHL action in about another year or two.
