Scouting Notes:

When it comes to scouting players in the USHL, people often look at the US NDTP and rarely at the rest of the league. Well, if there was a year to do so, it would be this year. The 2019-2020 Chicago Steel were a formidable team led by a couple of youngsters; Brendan Brisson being one of them.

Son of Pat Brisson, yes the NHL scout, has made a name for himself over the last couple of years before entering the USHL and gained some attention this year, coming in second in the whole league in points, only one behind the leader and Brisson’s teammate, Mathieu De St. Phalle.

Brisson is a very good offence generator and is also very balanced in his game. He can score and pass as well as enter zones in a controlled manner. I spoke with someone who covers the Steel and they told me that Brisson is very much the main guy when he is on the ice and makes his teammates better, often being the catalyst in scoring plays.

He will likely be this year’s version of Brayden Tracey who ended up being selected in the last part of the first round, going 29th to the Anaheim Ducks. I think he’s in that 25-45 range and has a good chance to keep rising in mock drafts where I had him on the outside looking in, for now.
