On Monday October 12th, the Rapid City Rush announced the re-signing of Canadian defensemen Brett Beauvais. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Beauvais, 25, took the ice for three different clubs in the ECHL last season. He started the season playing in Greenville before a four-game stint with the Adirondack Thunder. These were both prior to arriving in Rapid City.
For Beauvais, 2020-21 will be his third season playing in the ECHL. The defensemen, who stands at 5’11, made his pro debut with the Kansas City Mavericks. Doing so in 2018-19, Beauvis played 30 games, adding five assists along with 14 penalty minutes. Overall, in the ECHL, he’s logged 64 games, scoring two goals and 12 assists.
Before he made the jump to pro hockey, Beauvis spent four seasons playing with the Bemidji State Beavers in the NCAA. He played three seasons with the hockey club before requesting a transfer for his 2017-18. As such, he spent his senior year alongside Eric Israel with the Robert Morris Colonials.
Through his four seasons of college hockey, Beauvais played 114 games, where he compiled four goals along with 16 assists. During his career with the Beavers, Beauvis earned WCHA All-Academic Team honours in 2016. He also helped Bemidji State claim the WCHA regular season championship in 2017.
A native of Summertime, Prince Edward Island, Beauvais played two seasons of junior with the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings and one season with the Penticton Vees. While in the BCHL, Beauvais earned top defensemen honours while also named as a First-Team All-Star. As well, he led all defensemen in both points and assists.
As recent signings by Rapid City, Beauvais join Eric Israel, Collin Saccoman, Griffin Luce and Kyle Froese. This also includes Hayden Lavigne. As per the league’s recent announcement, puck drop will commence for the Rush on December 11th in a split-season format.
