Mark Tremaine Returns To Newfoundland

On Thursday August 13th, the Newfoundland Growlers announced the signing of rookie forward Mark Tremaine. Tremaine appeared in five games with the Growlers last season before the season was cut due to COVID-19. In those five games, he recorded an assist and a Plus/Minus rating of +1. Tremaine is the fourth player the Growlers have signed this offseason, joining Captain James Melindy, Todd Skirving and Garrett Johnston.

The 6’1 product of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia appeared in over 200 games during the span of four seasons in the QMJHL. Throughout that run, he suited up for the Moncton Wildcats, Victoriaville Tigres, and lastly, the Saint John Sea Dogs. There, he served as an assistant captain for a single season.

He recorded a grand total of 99 points, 73 of which collected on assists. The 26-year-old then took his talents to school where he spent five seasons at St. Francis Xavier University. While playing collegiate hockey, he appeared in 148 games where he scored 46 goals along 53 assists. He also added 232 penalty minutes to his name.

In a statement from the left-handed shooter, he said on Thursday upon signing his contract that “it was a no brainer” to return to the Growlers, striving to make a bigger impact that couldn’t be shown in such a short time.

Tremaine and the rest of the Growlers look to return to Mile One Centre as soon as they’re cleared to. The ECHL announced that they would look to start play on Friday, December 4th, going hand-in-hand with the AHL. Assuming all goes ahead as planned, the Growlers will face their Canadian foes, the Brampton Beast, on the road for two games. This will be a weekend series which gets underway on Saturday December 5th.
