On Tuesday July 28th, the Kansas City Mavericks announced the re-signing of winger Greg Betzold for the 2020-21 season. This will be his fourth season with the Mavericks after playing just 11 games with the team last season. This of course being the case before being sidelined due to an upper-body injury.
During those 11 games, Betzold recorded one goal and three assists for a total of four points. During the 2018-19 season, Betzold scored 25 goals and 31 assists. Making for 56 points, it was clear he was poised to have a great season before his injury. Betzold is a great player and will reflect that if he can get back to form. In a statement from Tad O’Had, head coach of the Kansas City Mavericks, he said, “When he’s at his best, Greg is a force to be reckoned with and we feel strongly that his best hockey is in front of him.”
The Mavericks greatly missed Betzold’s presence on the ice last season, and if he can get back to being a 20 or 25 goal scorer, he will be a huge piece for the Mavericks moving forward. With all of the young talent currently signed for the upcoming season, hopefully Betzold can not only be a big part of the offence, but be a leader in the locker room and drive this team to success.
