The Montreal Canadiens announced some unfortunate news during their weekly press conference on Thursday afternoon. Marc Bergevin announced that head coach Claude Julien was sent to the hospital after experiencing chest pains.
Now, we don’t have the exact details of what happened, but Dr. David Mulder, who is the team’s official doctor, gave some positive news about Julien this morning.
He will miss the remainder of the series against the Philadelphia Flyers, and as reported by The Athletic’s Arpon Basu, Kirk Muller has been appointed for the time being as head coach. Shea Weber commented on the situation, saying there was shock and concern with the team, but that they will use it as a motivating factor and will try to rally around their head coach.
Claude Julien’s family will not be heading to Toronto and they said that hopefully he can go home soon. The Canadiens are back in action for game two on Friday at 3:00pmET.
