It was announced early Saturday morning that Edmonton Oilers centreman Colby Cave has passed away 25 years of age. The news comes after Cave was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto where he was placed in a medically induced coma after undergoing emergency surgery. The two-hour operation was to remove a colloid cyst that was causing pressure on Colby Cave’s brain.
Shortly after Colby’s passing, his wife Emily released the following statement: “Both our families are in shock but know our Colby was loved dearly by us, his family and friends, the entire hockey community and many more,” the statement read. “We thank everyone for their prayers during this difficult time.”
The Battleford, Saskatchewan native spent three seasons in the NHL, playing in a total of 66 games as a member of the Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. He scored four goals and five assists for nine points registered in those 66 games. Cave’s best seasons came early on at the AHL level with the Providence Bruins where he spent three seasons, putting up double digit goal totals consecutively.
From everyone here at The Puck Authority, our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family of Colby at this difficult time.
