On Thursday October 1st, the Wheeling Nailers announced the signing of Canadian defensemen Dylan MacPherson. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season. MacPherson was on an AHL contract last year, but spent majority of the season with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
During his second year of pro, he was one of Greenville’s top offensive producers. The righty racked up four goals along with 13 assists for 17 points. He did so in 54 games. Those 17 points would put MacPherson one point behind the Swamp Rabbits’ leading defensemen. That would be behind current Nailer Chad Duchesne and American defensemen Brien Diffley.
In a statement from Mark French on Thursday, head coach of the Wheeling Nailers, he said of the team’s latest signing, “Dylan is a young defensemen who as a lot of upside. He is a good puck mover, he skates well, and he has good size.”
With the signing of the Alberta native, the Wheeling Nailers now have seven defensemen. This includes Marc-Olivier Duquette, Shane Kuzmeski, Jeremy Beaudry, Chad Duchesne and Kyle McKenzie. They’ve reportedly signed Nick Minerva as well.
Offensively, the Nailers have signed Cody Bradley, Alec Butcher, Tyler Drevitch, Brad Drobot and Andrew Gaus. This also includes Luke Lynch and Will Smith while reportedly signing Kevin Dufour and Carlos Fornaris.
