Last game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto (4-1 W), Jason Robertson played his first NHL game, but he didn’t take the traditional first lap. Instead, it was Andrew Cogliano playing his 1000th game in the National Hockey League. But tonight, it was Robertson’s turn.
The first period was opened up really quickly with a goal by Montreal’s Joel Armia about one minute into the game. It was a rebound shot off Bishop that hit his knee that he then just tapped into the net. The rest of the first was a very physical game with both teams registering a combined 21 hits.
The intermission report featured former Stars player acquired in the Seguin trade and current player development coordinator Rich Peverley discussing his program PevProtects (#PevProtects) which is trying to put an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) in every place where a bunch of people will be at once – arenas, schools, gyms, etc. to try to prevent people from dying after cardiac arrests also known as heart attacks. His cause is being brought to the forefront once again after Jay Bouwmeester’s “Cardiac Episode” during the Blues/Ducks game on Thursday night in California. This cause means a lot to Rich Peverley because he, himself, had a similar incident in 2014 against the Columbus Blue Jackets (Below if interested).
The second period got underway with a lot of puck possession, but few scoring chances by the Stars. But instead, with a couple better scoring chances by the Habs, especially one from Dale Weise that had bounced right above Bishop’s pad and into the net.
The Habs then scored their second goal against Bishop off the body of Jordan Weal after a great inside-outside fake by Nick Suzuki.
Sidenote: during one of the stoppages, Bell Centre played one of my favourite songs: “You’re gonna go far, Kid” by the Offspring right before Nick Cousins scored to make it 3-0 in favour of the Canadiens.
Mattias Janmark scored off a pass from Joe Pavelski and a misplay from Marco Scandella.
Montreal’s Ben Chiarot then took a slashing penalty after Comeau checked him to the ground. This would put them on the penalty kill, but Dallas couldn’t capitalize on a couple of good chances on the power play.
Montreal then took another penalty for hooking and then Dallas scored with Tyler Seguin’s second goal in two games after his well documented 17 game goal drought.
In the third period, the third Dallas Stars goal came from winger Blake Comeau to tie the game up at three.
After that, it was a ton of back-and-forth pressure, but Bishop, 6’7, stood tall and let nothing through and it ended up going to overtime where Tyler Seguin fired his second goal of the game past Carey Price to win it.
My Three Stars Of The Game:
First Star – Tyler Seguin: Two Goals, GWG.
Second Star – John Klingberg: Two Assists, Two blocks
Third Star – Joe Pavelski: Two Assists. +/- 0, One Hit
