On Wednesday September 30th, the Cincinnati Cyclones announced the signing of American defensemen Sean Giles. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Giles is a left-handed defensemen who is fresh off his college career with the Robert Morris Colonials. During his first of four seasons, Giles played 22 games, recording four assists for a total of four points. He also added on 12 penalty minutes.
During his sophomore year, Giles played an additional 12 games, recording six assists for a total of six points. He also added 28 penalty minutes. Giles had a breakout season in his junior year in 2018-19. In doing so, he recorded two goals along with seven assists for a total of nine points.
Achieving this in 38 games, he also added on 45 penalty minutes. During his swan song season, Giles only scored one goal along with five assists for a total of six points. While doing so in 37 games, he also added on 28 penalty minutes.
Overall, for his collegiate career, Giles played 131 games where he recorded three goals along with 22 assists. As such, he totalled 25 points while also compiling 113 penalty minutes.
In a statement from the left-handed shooter, he said upon signing his contract on Wednesday, “I think it’s the dream of every young athlete to play professionally, I’m very excited for the opportunity with the Cyclones. It has been a long 6 months already without hockey, so I’m really looking forward to getting to Cincinnati and getting to work.”
As for the thoughts of Matt Thomas, head coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones, he said of the team’s latest signing, “I’ve watched Sean’s progress from Junior hockey through the NCAA. He has always been a go-to-guy and plays the important minutes. He comes highly recommended by people I respect. We are excited to add a young defensemen that is mature beyond his years.”
