The summer has finally started for the Beast. A few days after sending their qualifying offer to seven players, the team announced on Friday their first two signings. Defensemen Cam Bakker and left-winger Patrick Megannety were signed to the Beast.
Both players started the 2019/20 season off in a similar position. They were together on the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the SPHL. However, Bakker only played eight games with them before being called up to Brampton to finish the season with them.
Megannety played for the Ice Flyers for the whole season and recorded 26 points in 39 games. He also played eight games for the Beast a few years ago after he graduated from Clarkson University in the NCAA. Since then, he has been with the South Carolina Stingrays for the last few years before joining the SPHL team last year.
Bakker has played for many minor leagues, including the FPHL, SPHL and ECHL. Last year, he recorded six points, thus scoring two goals and adding four assists. He is known for putting his body into the game and becoming physical to protect the goal.
The Beast have continued to be rather quiet during their offseason signings. These have been their first two signings and no player in the season-ending roster have signed elsewhere or been traded yet.
