With the ECHL slowly coming back after the pandemic, a sense of normality has struck hockey fans as the yearly season-ending rosters have been revealed. The Brampton Beast have recently revealed their roster, and there are not many surprises coming from the 20-man team.
Twelve forwards, seven defensemen and only one goalie remain on the team as only three players had to be shaved off. With those that are kept on the roster, it is obvious that the game plan was to keep the strong core alive.
However, even with a strong core behind the team, there are questions about certain parts of the team if they want to stay competitive in what is becoming more of a competitive Northern Divison.
With their 2019/20 starting goalie Alex Dubeau going to the AHL after a shakeup in the Senators goaltending, it left the backup goalies Andrew D’Agostini and Jamie Phillips left to keep the Beast afloat.
However, in 21 games the pair of them only managed to win 10 games. With the Beast only keeping D’Agostini in their roster, there is no certainty about what their net will look like at the start of the season. If any trades or signings are done by the Beast, it would likely come to bring in stability in a place where they haven’t had it since Dubeau left for Belleville.
The defense and forwards haven’t changed so much. It looks like the Beast are wanting to keep their strong offensive presence alive in the ECHL as David Vallorani, Daniel Leavens, David Pacan, and Erik Bradford return.
This doesn’t mean the team’s roster is set in stone for the 2020/21 season. The Beast will only be allowed to reserve the rights to eight players. Four of those can be veterans.
