Anaheim Ducks Sign Sam Carrick And Brendan Guhle

After locking up Christian Djoos and Jani Hakanpää on Wednesday evening, the Anaheim Ducks announced on Sunday evening the signings of center Sam Carrick and defensemen Brendan Guhle. Carrick, 28, has been signed to a one-year deal worth $700,000 while Brendan Guhle gets a two-year deal worth a total of salary of $1.6 million. While both are on one-way contracts, Guhle gets an AAV of $800,000 for the upcoming season.

Ducks Add AHL Depth

These two moves for the Ducks are depth moves with both guys likely starting next year down in the AHL. Guhle is the stronger player of the two and saw 30 games last year with Anaheim where he managed to rack up four goals and four assists while recording eight points. He also spent 27 games in San Diego where he picked up four goals while adding 10 assists.

If Guhle performs well at training camp, he could make the Ducks as a seventh defensemen as he has a lot of promise at only 22-years-old. His younger brother, Kaiden Guhle, is expected to go early in the second at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Carrick, who was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2010, was chosen in the draft’s fifth round, having been selected 144th overall. While not showing much NHL promise, the right-handed shooter only scored five points over 34 games with two goals and three assists. However, he’s been tearing it up down in the AHL where he’s picked up 123 goals and 161 assists.

He did so in 438 games where he managed to rack up 284 points. The Markham, Ontario native has put up at least 20 goals in the past two seasons, including a 32 goal campaign during the 2018-19 season.
