The Adirondack Thunder announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed forward Mike Szmatuala. As such, he becomes the second Thunder to re-sign with the team for next season. The Commerce, MI native had 49 points last year with Adirondack, surpassing his 48 points from the 2018-19 season. “He’s been an integral part of our team the past few years and he’s exactly what we look for in a Thunder Player,” said Head Coach Alex Loh.
Szmatuala signed his contract after the season began which limited him to only 56 games in the 2019-20 season. Previously, he played in four games in Poland, putting up two goals before he would end up rejoining the Thunder. As the Thunder are widely expected to be losing some big names when it comes to their offence, they could certainly look to rely more on the left-handed shooter next season. In 122 career games with the Thunder, he’s put up 47 goals and 52 assists for 99 points. Szmatula, 27-years-old, was named to the 2019 ECHL All-Star Game.
