Adirondack Thunder Acquire Sean Romeo From Florida Everblades

The Adirondack Thunder struck a trade on Tuesday with the Florida Everblades which sends goaltender Sean Romeo to the Thunder in exchange for cash considerations. This deal comes after the Thunder have spent the last week or so with only one active goaltender and alternating the emergency backup role with Evan Cormier seeing a chunk of time in New Jersey (NHL) and Binghamton (AHL). Dylan Pasco, whose normally the EBUG, saw time with the team while at home in Glens Falls and Corry Hartmoyer joined the team while they were on the road.

Thunder Add Another Goaltender

This is a move the Thunder should have a made a while ago with Cormier being rotated between Binghampton and Adirondack for most of the season up to this point. With Romeo now on the Thunder, this gives them a chance to rest Eamon McAdam who has started the last five games for Adirondack and has appeared in 26 of the Thunder’s 43 games this season. These included back-to-back games on January 10 and 11th as well back-to-back starts made just last weekend.

I expect McAdam to continue to be the starter for the Thunder moving forward, but expect McAdam to finally get a rest during back-to-back games. Romeo will likely make his first start on Saturday night on the backend of a back-to-back home weekend with Brampton before the Thunder head to Worcester on Sunday for an afternoon tilt with the Railers.

Romeo has played a combined nine games this season with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Florida Everblades. He has a combined 6-2-0-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and .891 save percentage. However, in two games played with the Everblades, he gave up four goals on 16 shots.

What Happens When Cormier Is Sent Back To Adirondack?

If and when Evan Cormier is sent back down to Adirondack, this will cause a change in the rotation when it comes to goaltending. Cormier is a prospect of the Devils and has seemed to be thrusted into the starter role when with the Thunder. When this happens, Romeo will likely be the odd man out and be placed on reserve until Cormier is sent back up to Binghamton. Expect the three goalie system to be very beneficial for the Adirondack Thunder moving forward.
