⭐️⭐️⭐️ – David Perron
Just a day after losing Robby Fabbri in a one-for-one deal with Detroit, the St. Louis Blues entered Saturday night taking on the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Blues, on a six-game winning streak, would enter the game in Western Canada on a strong note as Ivan Barbeshev, with 3:17 left, would bank his second of the season past Mike Smith. This would give St. Louis an early 1-0 lead with assists on the play having come from Oskar Sundqvist and MacKenzie MacEachern.
While that was all for the game’s first frame, it was not all for visiting Blues as Ryan O’Reilly would open period two with his fifth goal of the regular season. The power play goal, scored just four minutes in, would double St. Louis’ lead to two. Assists on the play would come from Alex Pietrangelo and David Perron.
Speaking of Perron, as the game would enter the overtime frame tied at two, the Canadian right-winger would provide the heroics, scoring the game-winning-goal in extra time. The power play goal would give the Blues a 3-2 victory with 2:14 left on the clock. For Perron, it would be his third game-winning-goal in seven games while also handing St. Louis their seventh straight victory to close out Hockey Night In Canada.
⭐️⭐️ – Cale Makar
Just two days after having defeated the Nashville Predators 9-4 on Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche returned to action as they took on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. While the first period didn’t go as planned with Colorado trailing Columbus 2-1, the second period had the Avalanche written all over it, more specifically defensemen Cale Makar.
The Avalanche, who are currently riding a two-game win streak, entered the second frame full of life as Cale Makar, with just under 11:00 to play, banked his third of the season past Joonas Korpisalo. Makar, who is a product of Boston University, would tie the game up at two apiece, meanwhile, assists on the play were handed to Matt Nieto and Ryan Graves.
This would not be all for neither Makar or the Avalanche themselves as the Canadian defensemen, with four minutes left, would bank the puck in for his second of the game. The goal would be the fourth of the regular season for the Calgary native, meanwhile, Tyson Jost and Name Kadri would be awarded with assists. The goal would give the Avalanche a 3-1 lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets. For his two-goal performance, Makar would be awarded first star of the game.
⭐️- Shea Weber
It was a night of comebacks and NHL records across the league on Sunday night and for Shea Weber, this statement fit perfectly as he led the Montreal Canadiens to victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
As always on Saturday night’s, Montreal likes to put on a show and with thanks to their captain in Weber, the opening frame allowed just that to happen at the Bell Centre in the city’s downtown core. Shea Weber started the party just ten minutes into the game’s first frame, opening the scoring with his fourth of the season to give the Canadiens an early lead. The goal, his fourth of the season, would be assisted by Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin. Just fifteen seconds later with Montreal looking to double their lead on the Kings, it would be veteran centreman Nate Thompson opening eyes in the opposing zone.
This would allow him to bank the puck by Jonathan Quick to give the Canadiens a quick 2-0 lead. For Thompson, who just recently hit the 700 game plateau, his first goal of the season would be assisted by Artturi Lehkonen and Thomas Tatar. Just over four minutes later with Los Angeles yet to hit the scoreboard, Shea Weber would be back for more as he would bank in his fifth of the season. His second goal of the game once again would come on the power play with assists from Nick Cousins and Drouin to give Montreal a 3-0 lead. For his two-game performance, Weber would be awarded first star of the game.
