Scouting Notes:
Devon Levi spent the 2019/20 season playing Junior A in the CCHL. In his first season in the league and playing Junior A, Levi excelled in pretty much every area of his game. Levi was named as the MVP of the CJHL and won pretty much every other award possible as a rookie in the league.
One of Levi’s strongest traits that will surely catch the eyes of any team who interviews him is his mindset. Due to his size, Levi will likely be drafted later in the draft then a player of his skills should be. We saw the same type of thing happen in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft with Dustin Wolf who was drafted 214th overall.
Levi has the skill needed to succeed at the next level, but more importantly, his determination and love for the game pushed him above others. While he has the skills necessary to be drafted as early as the second round or third round, NHL teams tend to focus on selecting big goaltenders earlier in the draft.
On the ice, Levi plays with confidence and tracks the puck very well. Levi is extremely flexible and is great at making big stretch saves to stop pucks. His vision and puck-tracking abilities are phenomenal and when combined with his speed and flexibility, he can be very difficult to score against. He constantly makes highlight-reel saves with his cross-crease stops which are reminiscent to that of Carey Price. His puck-tracking abilities and flexibility combine the styles of Carey Price and Jonathan Quick.
His play his season cannot be ignored. If he can bring even part of his game from this year to the NCAA next season, he could be a major diamond in the rough for whichever NHL team ends up selecting the future Northeastern University goaltender.
