On Thursday October 1st, the South Carolina Stingrays announced the signing of American centreman Nick Saracino. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Saracino joins the Stingrays hockey club after serving as captain of the Wheeling Nailers last season. While playing for the organization last year, Saracino recorded eight goals along with 15 assists which made for 23 points. He did so in 31 games.
In addition to 2019-20, Saracino recorded 17 goals along with 20 assists in 2018-19. This made for 37 points. He then received a promotion to the AHL with the Binghamton Devils. In doing so, he recorded six goals along with four assists through 38 games. He also amassed 10 points.
Between his time in Wheeling and Worcester, Saracino recorded 37 goals along with 60 assists for 97 points. He did so in 119 games. Saracino has also spent time in the AHL with the Iowa Wild. Combining those numbers with the Devils, the forward has recorded nine goals along with nine assists for 18 points. He achieved this through 78 contests.
Prior to making the jump pro, Saracino spent four years playing for the Providence Friars in the NCAA. During the tenure he spent there, Saracino helped the guide the men’s hockey program to an NCAA National Championship in 2015. Overall, he played 145 games where he scored 46 goals along with 70 assists. This made for 116 points.
In addition to his collegiate hockey career, Nick played two years of junior in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He did so before his freshman season, playing 99 games during his tenure in Iowa. During the time he spent there, Saracino recorded 20 goals along with 53 assists for 73 points.
In a statement from Ryan Blair on Thursday, head coach of the Stingrays hockey club, he said of the team’s latest signing, “The addition of Nick Saracino to our lineup is really big for us. He is entering his fifth full season of pro hockey and has proven to be a leader and a scoring threat when he touches the ice. He is also a well-rounded player who can play in all situations. We look forward to welcoming him to Charleston and seeing his contributions to our team.”
The Stingrays hope to see Saracino put that tall frame to good use this season and continue to be an effective leader and role player.
