South Carolina Stingrays Agree To Deal With Backstop Alex Dubeau

On Tuesday November 24th, the South Carolina Stingrays announced the signing of Canadian goaltender Alex Dubeau. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.

Dubeau makes the trip to the Lowcountry after spending time with both the Komets and Beast. This was in addition to the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League. While with the Beast last season, Dubeau, through 40 games played, established a record of 21-16-2. This also included three shutouts. In Belleville, he established a record of 1-2-0 in three games with the Senators.

Dubeau would finish his rookie season with a GAA of 3.23. That also joins a save percentage of .898 while playing with the Beast. As for his short time with the Senators, Dubeau recorded a GAA of 3.71 and a .896 save percentage.

In 2018-19, his first year of pro hockey, Dubeau, from Mascouche, Quebec, played another six games with the Fort Wayne Komets. There, he established a record of 3-2-1 with a .921 save percentage. Additionally, the Canadian backstop amassed a GAA of 2.48.

Prior to making the jump pro, Dubeau spent four years playing with the UNB Reds in the AUS. From 2015-2019, the goalie established a record of 46-15-0 in 65 games. He also played junior hockey with both the Moncton Wildcats and Shawinigan Cataractes.

Doing so in the QMJHL, Dubeau finished his junior career with an overall record of 138-69-8. He did so in 215 games while winning a Memorial Cup in his first year in the league. Following the long-awaited announcement, Dubeau becomes the first backstop to be signed by the Stingrays for the upcoming season.

Dubeau’s size is a little worrisome, but he makes up for it in his quick reflexes while proving that he is an excellent goalie that can win games. Dubeau will have big shoes to fill this season following the retirement of Parker Milner earlier this offseason.

The Stingrays will open their season on December 11th against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. They’ll do so at North Charleston Coliseum with puck drop slated for 7:05pmET.
