On Tuesday, August 25th, the Reading Royals announced the signing of rookie goaltender Luke Peressini. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season. Peressini is the tenth overall player and the first netminder signed so far by the Royals. The deal with Reading is Luke Peressini’s first professional contract.
The Nobleton, Ontario native stands at 6’3 and weighs 195 pounds. For four seasons he played for the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League – being named Goaltender of the Year for the 2014-15 season. During his OHL tenure, Peressini racked up a record of 68-39-8-6. He left the league with a .912 save percentage and a 2.73 goals against average.
Peressini also played in the OUA for the University of Western Ontario. There, he backstopped the team for two of its best seasons between 2018 and 2020. He played in 67 regular season games and led the team to three postseason appearances. While playing hockey in U SPORTS, the goalie recorded a combined .909 save percentage and a 3.02 goals against average.
“Even though Luke is entering his first professional season, his body of work in the OHL and at the university level demonstrates he can be a reliable puck stopper for us out of the gate. We welcome Luke to Reading and look forward to helping his development.” said Royals bench boss Kirk MacDonald.
