On Thursday July 30th, the Norfolk Admirals announced the signing of defensemen Eric Williams to a standard player agreement. Williams joins the Admirals hockey club after playing last season for the Utah Grizzlies. He played in 62 games for the Grizzlies and recorded a total of 23 points. He has played two games in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs and the Charlotte Checkers. Prior to jumping to pro, Williams played with current Admirals goaltender Jake Theut while attending Northeastern and playing for the Huskies.
Williams is not a big penalty guy which is what the Norfolk Admirals need. The Admirals need guys who will manage to stay out of the penalty box. For perspective, Williams only had 20 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Utah Grizzlies.
While at Northeastern, he was captain of the most winningest team in school history while also breaking several school records. Eric Williams played in two Calder Cup playoff games with the Charlotte Checkers on a professional tryout contract.
