On Tuesday, October 20th, the Norfolk Admirals announced that they will be voluntarily opting out of the 2020-21 season along with the Atlanta Gladiators. Norfolk was set to begin to play, pending jurisdictional approval, on the 15th of January.
Last season, the Admirals owned a record of 14-38-8 before the early end of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the release of Norfolk’s decision to sit out the season, Norfolk Scope had a set capacity of 1000 people, approximately 10% of the usual capacity.
Admirals CEO, Patrick Cavanagh, released in a statement that this was not an easy decision for the team to make, but it is what is best for the health and safety of players, fans, and other staff. With this decision, Cavanagh hopes to see fans return to Norfolk Scope when the team hits the ice again in 2021-22.
Admirals season ticket holders will be in contact with their sales representatives with options that are available to them in regards to box suites or their season tickets.
