On Thursday July 16th, the Newfoundland Growlers announced the re-signing of forward Todd Skirving for the 2020-2021 season. This will be his third season in Eastern Canada donning black, brown and white.
The 28-year-old native of Thunder Bay, Ontario skated in 37 contests during the shortened 2019-2020 campaign. During the year, he netted four goals, all of which were on home ice, and eight assists while also adding 38 penalty minutes.
The 6’2″, 185 pound graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology has been a part of the Growlers roster since their inaugural season where he got his name on the Kelly Cup in just his second pro season. Prior to landing in Newfoundland, Skirving had also appeared in 44 matchups with the Orlando Solar Bears, Utah Grizzlies and Atlanta Gladiators. He did so in a single season, that being back in 2017-18.
A favourite for many faithful of the team, Todd has won Equinor Community Player of the Year in both of his seasons during his tenure on “The Rock” as well as being involved in the community with many charities and causes. It’s no surprise that Skirving is a top-dog within the organization.
Assuming the season goes ahead as planned, Todd Skirving and James Melindy, along with the rest of the Growlers, will return to kick off the 2020-21 season on home ice once again. They will face either the Adirondack Thunder or the South Carolina Stingrays.
