Montreal Canadiens Sign Michael Frolík To One-Year Deal

On Wednesday morning, the Montreal Canadiens announced the signing of Michael Frolík to a one-year contract. The deal comes in close to league minimum, with his salary valued at $750,000. Frolik, 32-years-old, played 57 games between Buffalo and Calgary last season.

Frolik finished last season with 14 points, having tallied six goals along with eight assists. For his career, he’s scored 159 goals and 225 assists in 850 NHL games. He’s done so with the Florida Panthers, Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames and Buffalo Sabres.

Frolik was selected 10th overall by the Florida Panthers back in 2006. This move from general manager Marc Bergevin will most likely be seen as a depth signing, as even if the roster size is 23, teams can have a taxi squad of four-six players available.

He will most likely fit in under this scenario, hence the fact that Montreal got riddled with injuries last season, and thus, the team is making sure all bases are covered.
