The Montreal Canadiens announced on Sunday that forward Max Domi has agreed to wait 7-10 days before deciding whether or not he will be involved in phase three with the Canadiens.
Domi is a Type 1 diabetic and the risk of playing, especially during a pandemic, causes more risk to his body. At the end of the day, the most important thing is health and both him and the team want to be 100% sure there won’t be a severe risk.
Normally, players have until Monday evening if they want to opt out of the NHL’s return to play. Karl Alzner was the first Canadiens player to opt out on Saturday along with eight other players.
Remember, the opt-out for players is penalty-free, meaning they won’t be penalized if they think it’s not safe to return. Training camps are set to open on Monday morning across the National Hockey League. Montreal will travel to Toronto on July 26th to get ready to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the play-in series. The first game is scheduled for August 1st, however, the time has yet to be made official.
