GLENS FALLS, NY- Adirondack dropped the first game of a crucial three-game set against the Maine Mariners by a final of 3-0. This also snaps a win streak of four straight games taken on by the Thunder. This is the first time the Thunder have been shutout since November 30th when the Brampton Beast shut them out.
The fireworks began on the ice just 2:16 after the puck was dropped as James Phelan dropped the gloves with Zach Tolkinen, a veteran defensemen with the opposing Maine Mariners. “I came on and hit either (Michael) McNicholas or (Dylan) Fox pretty hard. I expected someone to come after me. The first two guys I said maybe not and the third guy I was like let’s just do it.”
Adirondack would give up the first goal just over six minutes later at home as an odd bounce off the boards would fool McAdam and leave a gift for 23-year-old Ted Hart. Morgan Adams-Moisan would make it 2-0 as he would get a breakaway opportunity and convert on it.
Adirondack would have a golden opportunity to net a goal and even the score as Ty Ronning, a Canadian winger, would take a double-minor for high-sticking Charlie Curti. Unfortunately, the Thunder wouldn’t be able to convert on the opportunity. The Thunder’s only other real chance would come late in the game’s third frame as Alex Loh would pull McAdam from the crease with 3:48 left to play in the game. Ryan Walker would hit the crossbar, but that’s as close as the Thunder would get to finding the back of the net on Wednesday.
Eamon McAdam would make 16 saves in the 3-0 loss to the visiting Mariners. “We’ll see”, Loh said when asked if he plans on splitting time between McAdam and Romeo seeing that both goalies have been playing decent over the past few games.
The Adirondack Thunder will be back in action on Friday night as they travel to Maine for the start of a home-and-home weekend series with the hometown Mariners. However, Adirondack knows they have to do things differently in game two of the three-game set. “There’s a chance we may have been a little bit frustrated that our power play wasn’t working and there’s certain areas they out-competed us. We have to respond in a matter where we can control the game”, said captain James Henry after the game. “Loose pucks along the boards, at the blue line, neutral zones are the areas”, Henry mentioned where the Mariners out-competed the Thunder.
