On Wednesday July 8th, the Fort Wayne Komets signed Liam Murphy to a tryout agreement for the 2020/21 ECHL campaign.
Murphy, 22-years-old, looks to make his pro debut after making his rounds in junior hockey and U SPORTS. He was teammates with recently re-signed defensemen Olivier Galipeau with Acadie-Bathurst in the QMJHL.
Liam started his junior hockey career with the Moncton Wildcats before moving on to Acadie-Bathurst, then to Chicoutimi from 2014/2015 to 2018/2019. He won the Memorial Cup with Acadie-Bathurst while posting his junior best 20 goals and 38 points. He did so in 65 games before adding 10 points in 20 games in the playoffs.
Last season, Liam made his postsecondary debut with Concordia University of the OUA. During that time, he racked up six goals and four assists for a total of 10 points. Adding on 44 penalty minutes, he managed to do so in just 19 games.
