On Monday November 24th, the Kansas City Mavericks announced the signing of American centreman and winger Ross Olson. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Olson originally signed with the Railers, where the forward competed in 2019-20. However, when the team opted out of the season, the left-handed shooter became a free agent.
Olsson, 26-years-old, played in 51 games with the Railers last season. During, he tallied 20 points, having racked up 12 goals along with eight assists. As well, the North Billerica native collected a total of 120 penalty minutes.
Prior to making the jump pro, Olsson spent four seasons playing in the NCAA with the Endicott Gulls. There, he holds the record for most points and the most assists in program history. In 94 collegiate hockey games, Olsson played 94 games and collected a total of 134 points.
Olsson is a big and strong forward, standing at six-foot-four and weighing 216 pounds. He’s definitely not afraid to stick up for his teammates and has a good idea where to be in the offensive zone. This is a guy who loves to scrap and loves to move the puck, which will make him a favourite quickly among his teammates and the fans.
The Mavericks continue to add players for this unprecedented season, which, as of now, is still slated to kick off on the eleventh of December. With so many talented players now on the market, it will be interesting to see what moves Kansas City continues to make despite having numerous players already signed. Whatever happens, expectation is there to be a very competitive training camp ahead.
