On Thursday September 24th, the Kalamazoo Wings announced the signing of American defensemen Nick Bruneteau. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Bruneteau, 28-years-old, has spent the past five seasons competing in Europe. Three of those five seasons, Bruneteau spent playing with Cortina in Italy. Prior to playing in Europe, he saw time in the ECHL with the Reading Royals and Indy Fuel. In doing so, he played 70 games where he recorded three goals along with 35 assists.
Looking at his last two seasons, Bruneteau recorded 15 goals along with 43 assists for 58 points. While he did so in 81 contests, the native of Omaha, Nebraska combined for a +28 though two seasons.
In a statement from the right-handed shooter, he said upon signing his contract on Thursday, “During these strange times, I wanted to play for an organization I could trust. I have known Tanner Sorenson since high school, he is one of my best friends and he has always had great things to say about the organization, coaches and city of Kalamazoo.”
As for the thoughts of Nick Bootland, head coach of the Kalamazoo Wings, he said of the team’s latest signing We have had interest in singing Nick since his rookie season. He is a mobile right shot defensemen with a great ability to escape pressure. He sees the ice very well and is a big time competitor.”
The Bruneteau family are no strangers to the state of Michigan. Nick’s grandfather, Ed, spent portions of seven seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. This was in the 1940’s which saw him skate in 181 games. As such, he recorded 82 points.
Nick’s brother, Matt, spent four seasons playing at Lake Superior State University. I’m certain that fans of the K-Wings will be happy to welcome Nick to the organization.
