Dillon’s Mock Draft: 2020 NHL Entry Draft Round 2 Of 4

I hope you enjoyed round one of my NHL Entry Draft mock draft. It is now time to see who goes in round two and the first pick belongs to the Detroit Redwings, they are now on the clock.

32nd overall – (Detroit) Martin Chromiak

That’s right. I have Martin Chromiak going in the top of the second round to the Detroit Red Wings. I would’ve had this forward in the late first round if he had played more games in the Ontario hockey league. I believe Martin has a chance to make the NHL next season, he may not see time in the OHL next season.

33rd overall – (Ottawa) Braden Schneider

This pickup really makes sense if the draft goes according to plan for the Senators. They will pick up this offensive defensemen from the WHL and could possibly turn him into another Erik Karlsson. They could also flip him and get some veteran help. Either way, a great pick up for the Ottawa Senators.

34th overall – (San Jose) Hendrix Lapierre

Even though he only played 19 games this year, he put up an impressive 17 points and the year before, he put up 45 points. That’s why he projects as a second round pick at the top of my mock draft. He is a perfect fit for San Jose who is experiencing a little bit of a youth movement recently, and as such, would fit right in.

35th overall – (Los Angeles) Jacob Perreault

This forward put up an impressive 79 points for the OHL’s Sarnia Sting this past season. Sarnia struggled at times this year, so this was impressive and he really showed leadership even though he was born in 2002. He fits in great with the Los Angeles kings who are also a young NHL team.

36th overall – (Anaheim) Jérémie Poirier

I have only ever seen this player play on TV or live once. I was really impressed with him at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. As a defensemen, 53 points is pretty impressive and he reminds me of Arizona Coyotes prospect Cam Dineen.

37th overall – (Nashville) Brandon Coe

I’ve seen this player play so much in person. That’s why I have him so high in the second round. He had an unbelievable second-half to his season and deserves the recognition of being in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Just as well, he’s deserving of being selected with this second-round pick in the NHL Draft.

38th overall – (Buffalo) Justin Barron

Even though this defensemen only put up 19 points this year, he took on a new role than he did in the previous season. This allowed him to be a shut down defensemen. The year prior, he put up 41 points, but his lack of production this year doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a high hockey IQ. That’s why I have him going 38th to Buffalo in the NHL Draft’s second round.

39th overall – (Montreal) – Brendan Brisson

I really hope the Canadians did their homework with this pick because if they did, they’re going to get a talented young American forward. He put up 59 points this year with the Chicago Steel in the USHL, and the year before, he was a standout at the famous Shaddick St. Mary’s, amassing a total of 101 points.

40 overall – (Montreal) Tyson Foerster

Montreal doesn’t get a break in between picks, and with this one, they get Tyson Foerster, Barrie Colts superstar. It was a weird year for the Colts as they started off well with a win against North Bay, but not having their head coach, Dale Hawerchuck, seemed like a challenge as the season progressed. Warren Rychel was the original head coach to start the season, but was ultimately let go and Todd Miller would take over in the interim. Tyson always prevailed and led the Colts offensively when it was needed the most. That’s why I have him going to the Habs in the second round.

41st overall – (Arizona) Ryan O’Rourke

I really loved watching this defensemen when I would attend Battalion games against the Greyhounds. His hockey IQ is off the charts, and you may not notice him all the time, but he definitely contributes when needed. Arizona likes developing young defensemen and he fits right into the model of their development process.

42nd overall – (Minnesota) Ridly Greig

TSN’s Bob McKenzie has this forward going a little bit earlier in the NHL Draft. I believe he is going to slip a little bit because the WHL isn’t as heavenly scouted as the OHL or QMJHL. I wish Ridly Greig nothing but the best in his career moving forward.

43rd overall – (Winnipeg) Justin Sourdif

Another name who was invited to Canada’s development camp for the U18 World Juniors. He put up over 50 points with the Giants and I expect him to go in the second round.

44th overall – (Carolina) Mavrik Bourque
