With the 2021 OHL draft lottery completed this week I figured I would share some scouting knowledge with my loyal fans here at Puck Authority and give you some insight on how the first round of the 2021 OHL priority selection may play out

The Sudbury Wolves won the lottery so they would be on the clock first

1- Sudbury Wolves-Calum Ritchie, F (Oakville Rangers)

Calum could be one of two Oakville blades taken in the top 5 of this draft he is a strong powerful forward that can play 200 feet of the ice exceptionally well I expect him the centre line with Chase Stillman in his first year at some point.

2-Oshawa Generals-Noah Cochrane, D (Barrie Jr. Colts)

Oshawa I’ve developed dynamic defenceman like Oliver Suni in the past and this could be another defenceman like him he could easily go first overall if Sudbury did not need a power forward to stack up their lineup with the potential loss of Quinton Byfield and the other forwards.

3-Guelph Storm-Cameron Allen, D (Toronto Nationals)

This pick just makes too much sense for me even though Guelph was a decent defence of team last season the team was older and you can never have too many defenceman and when you could potential he had a guy like Cameron who can step onto your team and help the top pairing guys take a load off because he is such a workhorse you do it

4- Windsor Spitfires – Luke Misa, F (Oakville Rangers)

After watching like five clips of this guy play I knew he was going to be a top five pick an elite restaurant from the circles like Shane Wright and to me he just replaces Jean Luc Foudy on your team if he makes the avalanche which I think he will.

5-Kingston Frontenacs-Ben Lalkin, F (Mississauga Reps)

This kid has been featured on TSN and on YouTube many times for his dangles the OHL get ready this kid as soft hands and if you put them on the wing with Kingston’s exceptional player Shane Wright I think this could be a deadly combination

6- Peterborough Petes- Luke McNamara, F (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)

Big kid listed at 6 foot and probably bigger since the last time elite prospects or any of the other sites update heights and weights fits the mould of a Peterborough Pete who plays tough and isn’t afraid to take a hit

7-Flint Firebirds-Anselmo Rego, F (Vaughan Kings)

This kid is simply what Evan Vierling could’ve been in Flint hopefully Anselmo can you help the fire birds and what always seems to be a struggle at some point in a season.

8-Owen Sound Attack-Angus Macdonell, F (Toronto Marlboros)

Some scouts sure I’m sure have this player in the top five I didn’t like what I saw he seems to be scared to get hit but maybe the coaches in Owen sound can work on that and if they do he will become an elite player in the OHL

9-Mississauga Steelheads-Anthony Romani, F (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)

This guy is a two-way player which is exactly what the Mississauga Steelheads need they’re in a tough division with Sudbury, North Bay Niagara and themselves fighting for every game so will be key not to give up goals in this division this player will provide offence sparks and is responsible at the other end of the ice.

10-Eire Otters-Carson Rehkopf, F (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)

This is where the gray area starts to happen in this draft I think it’s more about which player you like in the spot not taking the best player available to me than player I like in the spot is Carson so you would see back-to-back Toronto Junior Canadians selected in the first round

11-North Bay Battalion-Luca Pinelli, F (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)

Yes he is the younger brother of Francesco and if North Bay adds this Bonelli they would be a dangerous young team add in that Ty Nelson has not yet played a game and this team is intriguing to watch as a Darkhorse in the Eastern conference.

12-Ottawa 67’s-Conor Thacker, D (Oakville Rangers)

This just makes too much sense yet again if you add Connor you will now have Jack Matier entering his second season in the OHL along with this young blue liner could make the 67s blue line something I would not want to mess with.

13- Sarnia Sting- Mitchell Brooks, F (Toronto Titans)

This kid has raw speed and raw restaurant that could be developed into a scoring threaten the OHL and I would love to have him play my penalty kill in the first year

14-Hamilton Bulldogs-Colby Barlow, F (Toronto Marlboros)

Big kid that I would try to transition to an offence of defenceman big pick up for Hamilton if they can stay in their own backyard and get this guy.

15-Saginaw Spirit-Nick Lardis, F (Oakville Rangers)

Another US team that will probably screw my draft up if they stay on the north side of the border they will get the super talented undersized player who could develop into a productive OHL player

16-London Knights-Bronson Ride, D (Oakville Rangers)

Yes another back-to-back teammate scenario if this draft plays out reminds me of Evan Bouchard but more of a defensive style big man Dale Hunter definitely has something to work with if he gets this player.

17-Kitchener Rangers-Declan Waddick, F (Sun County Panthers)

Yet another prospect that could slip in to the second round like Dalyn Wakley did last season with North Bay he is not regarded thathigh many lists on the Internet because Sun country is not A highly regarded u16 program so you have to be a star to get recognize the surly I believe Declan fits that definition and could be headed to Kitchener with the 17th pick

18-Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds-Chase Thompson, F (North Bay Trappers)

I could see an outside shot of this happening in Sault Ste. Marie if it does they get a player who never quits on the ice and who I personally think will be an impact player in the OHL.

19-Barrie Colts- Matthew Wang, F (London Jr. Knights)

If the final pick up the first round the Barrie Colts should select Matthew Wang highly regarded out of the London junior Knights program he uses the strength and every pound of his body to is as a advantage i would love to see him picked up at the end of the first round.
