On Friday, November 20, the Indy Fuel announced the signing of Canadian defensemen Médric Mercier. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Mercier joins the Indy Fuel after spending three seasons in the OUA. He played with the Ottawa Gee-Gees after finishing his career in the Ontario Hockey League. Appearing in 73 games, Mercier racked up 17 goals along with 20 assists which made for 37 points. He also added 24 penalty minutes.
During his junior hockey career, Mercier, 24-years-old, played with the Oshawa Generals and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Standing tall at six-foot-three, Mercier led the OHL in goals scored among defensemen in 2016-17. That season, he tallied 21 goals along with 27 assists which made for 52 points. Throughout his three seasons in the league, Mercier tallied 29 goals along with 59 assists in 137 games. He also added 98 penalty minutes.
