On Wednesday September 9th, the Cincinnati Cyclones announced the signing of Canadian forward Matthew McLeod. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season. McLeod was acquired in the offseason to complete a trade that sent Jamie Phillips to the Brampton Beast.
McLeod is a right-shooting forward at 6’1 who hails from North York, Ontario. Prior to turning pro last season, McLeod, 23-years-old, spent four seasons playing at Canisius College. Through his collegiate career, McLeod only scored eight goals along with 17 assist for 25 points. He did so through 124 games.
In his rookie year spent with Brampton, McLeod only racked up four goals along with four assists for a total of eight points. He did so in 33 games. McLeod also added four penalty minutes and a Plus/Minus rating of -4.
Upon signing his contract on Wednesday, the Toronto native said of the chance to go pro, “I am excited to come to a passionate sports city such as Cincinnati. It will be fun playing in an NHL size building for a team that has seen success on the ice and has a huge fan base. I look forward to giving people something to cheer about again after such crazy times.”
In a statement from head coach Matt Thomas, he said of the newest addition to the Cyclones roster, “Matt is a pure skater that will immediately upgrade our team speed, his work ethic and attention to detail make him a valuable asset as we continue to build our team. We look forward to adding Matt to the mix as he will be a player that our fans will really appreciate.”
