Beast Signing Former Ross Robertson Cup Winner Tommy Hughes

After a few weeks off from the Brampton Beast’s huge week of signings, the next name to be joining the Beast was announced by the hockey club on Wednesday evening. The Beast add another defensemen to their roster, signing Tommy Hughes to a standard player agreement.

Already, Hughes has had a strong career having played junior hockey. During these years, he played with the London Knights and won back-to-back Ross Robertson Cups with the team. After, he was signed by the New York Rangers where he spent four seasons with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

He played a year with the Hersey Bears and the South Carolina Stingrays before he moved to the U.K. There, he played for the Nottingham Panthers in the EIHL. After a year, he went back to the ECHL and became the assistant captain for the South Carolina Stingrays.

“Hockey wise, I am a defensive defensemen, I might not put up too many points but hopefully (I) keep the puck out of the net,” Hughes said Wednesday in Brampton’s news release.

Hughes doesn’t have a lot of points to his name and he is aware of that. What the Beast will get is a player that is physical and will put his body in front of shots if he has to.

This is Brampton’s first signing since the announcement that the season will get underway in December. What the next few months will look like in terms of signings is up in the air right now.
