On Monday, November 30th, the Allen Americans announced the signing of American forward Corey Mackin. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.
Mackin became a free agent after the Reading Royals opted out of the season. As he gets set for his second pro season, it’s also his first with the Allen Americans. Prior to joining the league, Mackin spent four years playing with the Ferris State Bulldogs in the NCAA.
There, Corey Mackin was a teammate of Jared Van Wormer, the Americans co-captain. In addition to his collegiate hockey career, the 25-year-old played junior hockey with the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL. Mackin’s standout year was his second, racking up 50 goals along with 54 assists. He did so in 58 games.
Thus far in his ECHL career, the left-handed shooter has tallied 52 points, scoring 21 goals along with 31 assists. He’s achieved this in 70 games played. The hockey club also announced that the Iowa Wild have reassigned Tyler Sheehy and defensemen Matt Register for 2020-21. Register is a three-time Kelly Cup Champion while Tyler Sheehy is a Rookie of the Year runner-up.
Allen is set to hold their home opener on December 18th as the play host to Rapid City. Before that, on the 12th of December, Allen opens the season against the Tulsa Oilers.
