Adirondack Thunder Split Weekend Series With Royals And Mariners

Friday Night vs Reading

The Thunder dropped a rough one Friday night as they welcomed the first place Reading Royals to Glens Falls. This would be the second match-up between the two teams this season with Reading taking the first matchup 1-0. Friday night would be the last road game for the Royals as they will place the next six games on home ice. Adirondack Captain James Henry would play his 400th professional game in Friday night’s loss.

Adirondack would once again get on the board first as Matt Salhany would bat one it on the power play to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead about ten minutes into Friday night’s game. Reading would respond on the power play a little over seven minutes into the second to tie up the game. The turning point of Friday’s game came when Ryan Walker was awarded a penalty shot for the Thunder.

Walker would get denied on the penalty shot. “It’s little things here and there”, said head coach Alex Loh when asked if that was a turning point for the Thunder. Reading would take the lead with less than two minutes left in the second period and that momentum would carry them the rest of the way as the Thunder would be held to only four shots in the third period.

Eamon McAdam would get the first start in a back-to-back weekend for Adirondack. McAdam made 43 saves in the first matchup of the season on November 3rd. He did, however, keep the Thunder in the game in the first two periods making save after save to keep them in it heading into the third. Following the game, Adirondack travels to Maine as they face the Mariners on Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 6:00pmET.

Adirondack picked up a much-needed win on Saturday night as they defeated the Maine Mariners by a score of 4-0. Adirondack has had a knack of getting on the board early and they did that once again on Saturday as Chris Marin would be credited with a very odd goal that somehow got past Connor LaCouvee. That would be Martin’s first professional goal.

Speaking of first professional goals, Jake Linhart would pick up his first of the season as well. Maine would get a chance to cut the lead in half as Michael McNicholas would have a breakaway and get stoned by Evan Cormier. Mike Szmatuala would have two assists after being a healthy scratch in Friday night’s contest.

Cormier won his second straight game and gets his first shutout stopping all 25 shots he faced. Saturday’s win is the third win out of four meetings between the two clubs.
