Villeneuve is coming off a great year where he scored nine goals and 49 assists for 58 points in 64 games. His point production took a giant step forward with a +39 differential in total points from his first year in the QMJHL.
While adding an offensive touch in 2019-2020, he continued to refine his skating and transition while being on an average Sea Dogs team. His game revolves around his calmness with the puck and even if he’s not a dynamic skater, he is at ease with the puck and makes a good first pass to start the transition. He also enjoys joining the rush and is always a legitimate threat. He also possesses a good overall hockey IQ.
His progression from year one to year two was very positive and to expect it to be as good is ambitious, but Villeneuve has all the qualities to become one of the better defensemen in the QMJHL. Even though Poirier is the more known defender from Saint John, Villeneuve is the better all around defensemen and should get more attention in his third year in junior.
