Lucas Raymond has been on scouts’ radars for multiple years now and he has not missed a beat. He is one of the more skilled players in the draft, possessing great offensive instincts that should seamlessly translate to the pros.
As mentioned earlier, Raymond is expected to be a top 10 pick. He is part of the second wave of prospects in the NHL draft after Alexis Lafreniere. Raymond is one of the better offensive players in the last couple of years and would add a much needed scoring touch to any team that needs it. He is both quick on his feet and at releasing pucks.
He is also a good puck handler and has made a couple of highlight reel moves in various tournaments that have garnered high praise from peers and coaches alike. He is not afraid to attack opposing players which shows a high level of poise.
He’s likely one year away from battling for an NHL roster spot. I believe he needs more experience and mileage before he comes to North America, whether that’s to play in the pros or the minors. He has a lot of NHL qualities like his shooting, his skating and his offensive awareness, but he has only played 43 games in the SHL in the last two years, meaning he could refine other parts of his game. Raymond split the last two seasons, playing for Frolunda’s U18 and U20 programs in addition to the pro club as well.
