Reading Royals Sign Rookie Forward Luke Voltin

On Monday August 31st, the Reading Royals announced the signing of American left-winger Luke Voltin. The two sides agreed to terms on a standard player contract for the upcoming season.

Voltin’s signing with the Royals marks the forward’s first professional contract. Standing at six feet even and weighing in at 194 pounds, the Blaine, Minnesota native last played for Northern Michigan University of the NCAA before concluding his collegiate campaign in March of 2020.

The rookie forward’s career at school included 144 games in which he accumulated 136 penalty minutes and 25 points – 14 goals and 11 assists. His senior year alone accounted for more than half of those stats when he put up 13 points and 8 goals.

“I thought Luke had the best year he’s ever had as a hockey player [in his senior year] … and I’ve known Luke since he’s been 14. Eight goals, he found his way on the power play. He started playing four-on-four. He gave you an honest hard effort every night,” said Northern Michigan Head Coach Grant Potulny.

In a statement from Kirk MacDonald, Head Coach of the Reading Royals, he said of the team’s newest addition, “Luke improved in his senior season and we are excited to bring him to Reading for his first professional opportunity. We expect him to be a contender for a roster spot with our club and be a reliable two-way forward.”

Voltin is the sixth forward to join the Royals for their upcoming twentieth anniversary season. He will be joined by rookie forward Brendan van Riemsdyk as well as returning forwards Brayden Low, Hayden Hodgson, Luke Stork, and Frank DiChiara.
