The Mississauga Steelheads are back in OHL trade news. They have made a trade deadline day transaction with the Hamilton Bulldogs. After this past week, the Steelheads have clearly retooled the roster for a playoff push while at the same time stockpiling several draft picks for the future. Big name players Ryan McLeod and Owen Tippett have moved on to Saginaw and players such as CJ Clarke and Nick McHugh have been acquired as a result.

On Thursday morning, Mississauga Steelheads general manager James Richmond announced that they had traded defensemen Daniel Nardi to the Hamilton Bulldogs. In return, Mississauga receives the Bulldogs tenth-round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Draft. In a statement from Richmond with regards to the deal, he said of Daniel Nardi, “We would like to thank Daniel for his commitment to the Steelheads and we wish him all the best in Hamilton.”

Daniel is an affiliate player currently playing for the Toronto Jr. Canadians of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). The 17-year-old defensemen has played fourteen games with the Jr. Canadians, racking up a total of nine points registered in that time. Daniel appeared in seven games for Mississauga this season, finishing with one assist recorded for his former team.

The 2017 tenth overall Niagara IceDogs draft pick played in three games for the IceDogs before being acquired by Mississauga. Nardi had been acquired by Niagara while playing with the Fort Erie Meteors in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). During his time there, Nardi tallied twenty-eight points in forty-two games played.

With the tenth pick coming over from Hamilton to the Steelheads, it becomes another future pick for Mississauga to add on with their already well replenished pool of draft picks looking ahead. The Steelheads get set for a three in three weekend stretch of games that kicks off four consecutive weekends of three in three series.

Mississauga currently sits in fourth place in the Central Division of the Ontario Hockey League and look to gain some ground on the third place North Bay Battalion starting on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
