All it took was a pandemic, a new CBA and more negotiating, but the New York Islanders have finally signed goaltender Ilya Sorokin to a one-year contract for the 2020-21 season. The contract carries a $2 million cap hit with a $1 million signing bonus and $1 million salary base.

Sorokin’s agent, Dan Milstein, announced via Twitter Monday night that the backstop signed his entry-level contract for the season’s remainder in addition to next season. Since the 2019-20 regular season has ended, this contract is merely a paper transaction as there is no salary cap in the playoffs while players as such do not receive further payment.
