The wait is finally over for ECHL fans who have been waiting for the newest ECHL team in Canada to announce their name. In a Facebook Live on Thursday afternoon, the team announced that they will be known as the Lions de Trois-Rivieres. Their primary colours will be blue and white, and the logo is a Fleur-de-lis, which is detailed to include a Lion’s mane. It will also have a Montreal Canadiens trademark on it. Team jerseys are set to be released at a later date. The name Lions is nod to the city’s past, acknowledging two previous teams who used the name while in existence. Trois-Rivieres is one of two teams in the North Division to have a lion in their logo, with the other being the Reading Royals.
High Expectations For The Lions
It comes as no surprise that Trois-Rivieres will be a team to keep an eye on next season, especially seeing that they will be affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens. This is huge for the organization, who will have a large pool of talent to select from while they shape up the roster that will debut in October. The Lions will start their season at home, facing their Canadian rival in the Newfoundland Growlers. They’ll do so on October 21st when doors open to the public at Le Nouveau Colisée. Speaking of which, the arena will overtake Cool Insuring Arena as the smallest rink in the ECHL. However, playing in Quebec, they should have a ton of support from the surrounding community.
