On the first day of 2021, the Swamp Rabbits started off the new year with a bang when they defeated the South Carolina Stingrays by a final score of 3-1 on home ice.
Brendan Connolly scored the first goal of the new year when he got a shot past Hunter Shepard on the power play, with just three minutes left in the opening period. Assists on the play were rewarded to both Tim Davidson and Greg Meireles.
Halfway through the game’s second frame, Cole Ully tied the game up at one when he slid the puck right in past Greenville’s backstop Ryan Bednard. Assists on the play were rewarded to both Max Novak as well as Will Graber. Seven minutes later, Max Zimmer regained the lead for the Swamp Rabbits with assists being credited to Frank Hora and Liam Pecararo.
To close out the game in the third, Brendan Connolly struck again for the Swamp Rabbits with a shorthanded goal just five minutes in. For the forward, they were his first two of the season, breaking open the scoring and then the go-ahead goal.
The Swamp Rabbits are 3-4-0-0 this season with all three of their wins coming against the South Carolina Stingrays. The team appears at home again on Wednesday as they take on the Nailers before hitting the road. They will be without defensemen Jack Sadek, who was loaned on Monday to the Ontario Reign. Puck drop at Bon Secours Wellness Arena is scheduled to fall at 7:05pmET.
